Ormskirk all set for ‘final’ flourish

Ormskirk 1st XV take on Didsbury Toc H in the Alan Stone Bowl final on Sunday

Ormskirk overcame Bury in the mud to reach the final on Sunday

Ormskirk 1st XV take on Didsbury Toc H on Sunday hoping to finish  the season with some silverware.

The Alan Stone Bowl final pits third placed Didsbury against eighth placed Ormskirk and promises to be a real battle. Their final opponents have to go into the tie as favourites, after winning both fixtures between them this season.

However, being the underdogs will certainly not faze the Green Army. Training over the last two weeks has been good and players are also returning from injury at the right time. This allows coaches, James Smith and Danny Booth, the rare luxury of picking from a near full strength squad.

The tournament itself has been a strange one. Their first round opponents were due to be Newton le Willows at the start of the season. Unfortunately, Newton were unable to fulfill the fixture, allowing Kirk a passage through to the semi final stage.

Bury were the opponents in the semi’s, where Ormskirk emerged victorious in heavy mud to claim their spot in the final.

How can I watch Ormksirk in the final?

The final will be played at Leigh RUFC’s ground this coming Sunday. The club’s senior side have not won silverware for several seasons so this represents a great opportunity to put that right.

With a mountain to climb, we would ask all Ormskirk members to try and get down to Leigh RUFC and support the lads in their attempts to bring the silverware home.

Kick off is at 12pm and the players bus is due to leave Green Lane, no later than 10am. The bus is a 32 seater so there may be some room for spectators. Failing that the postcode for Leigh RUFC is WN7 3NA.

MJS AGM – Change of Date

CHANGE OF DATE

Ormskirk RUFC Mini and Juniors AGM

Tuesday 23rd May 2017 at 7.30pm

Due to a number of apologises received for the proposed AGM next week, the MJS AGM will be delayed until Tuesday 30th May 2017 at 7.30pm

The Mini and Junior Section is run purely by volunteers who carry out a number of roles from coaching, team administration support, running the kitchen, serving food to players, refereeing and being involved on the management committee. These volunteers are invaluable to the club and without them we would not be able to function as a successful Mini and Juniors Section.

All officer roles on the Mini and Juniors Management Committee are to be appointed annually by the Members of the Ormskirk Rugby Union football Club Mini & Junior Section at the Annual General Meeting, which will be held this year on Tuesday 30th May at 7.30pm at Ormskirk Rugby Club. Members of the Mini and Juniors Section are classified as players and also parents of players who pay club subscriptions.

We are urgently looking for a new Chairman, Fixtures Secretary and Safeguarding Officer. If you feel that you have the enthusiasm and can spare a couple of hours to help support the existing success of the Mini & Juniors section, please send an expression of interest or nomination for the role you are interested in to the current MJS secretary Dave Evans at david.evans1990@btinternet.com no later than 7 days prior to the Annual General Meeting, therefore by the 23rd May.

The Mini and Juniors Management Committee is made up of the following roles –

Chairman

The Chairman provides leadership and direction to the Mini & Junior Section with assistance from the management committee.  The Chairman chairs the majority of meetings and ensures all management committee are able to perform their duties.  Other duties of the Chairman include ensuring that the section is being run in a suitable manner according to the RFU by making sure that all official and club documentation is completed and the necessary obligations met.  As well as this, the Chairman represents the section at various club events and has a seat on the Club Board.

Vice Chairman

The Vice Chairman helps the Chairman perform their duties by providing support and assistance in the various duties.  The Vice Chairman also deputises for the Chairman during periods of absence.

Safeguarding Officer

The safeguarding officer ensures the safety and care of the young players within the section by ensuring that all coaches and volunteers are aware of their responsibilities during the course of their duties and ensuring that safeguarding practices are promoted and maintained.  The safeguarding officer also makes sure that accurate records are kept for club volunteers and ensures the section meets the criteria set by the RFU for Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable adults in Rugby.

Secretary

The Secretary provides most of administration work for the management committee, producing agendas and minutes for committee meetings.  The secretary also acts as a main point of contact for individuals not associated with the club.

Coaching Coordinator

The Coaching Coordinator ensures that the coaching provided to the clubs players is in line with RFU guidelines.  This includes making sure that all equipment used during coaching is fit for purpose and that all coaches have the necessary training and qualifications to provide coaching to players.

Fixture Secretary

The Fixture Secretary is responsible for arranging the majority of the sections matches, allocating pitches and ensuring that each home match is officiated by a referee. The Fixture Secretary acts as the main link between the club, Lancashire RFU and other clubs.

Treasurer

The treasurer is responsible for all of the sections financial responsibilities, including the setting of annual budgets, monitoring subscription fees and administering the club accounts.  The treasurer is also responsible for providing monthly and annual accounts to the management board for approval.

Registration Secretary

The Registration Secretary coordinates the registration of existing and new players to the section, ensuring that all documentation for players are correct and any outstanding fees are received.   The Registration Secretary is also responsible for maintaining accurate records on every player, ensuring that all information is relevant and correct.

Support will be provided to anyone taking on a new role. If you would like further information on any of the roles before the AGM, please contact me at julie@julie18.plus.com or on 07540 884955

As always the section is continuously looking for more volunteers who can help out in any way and some teams need additional support with coaching, administration duties and refereeing. If you are interested in providing any form of support to the section or a team (whether it’s a couple of hours a month or on a weekly basis) please contact me to discuss what support you may be able to give. Training and support will be provided to all volunteers.

The AGM can be attended by any member of Ormskirk Rugby Club and I would encourage all members, parents and players to attend the meeting.

Kindest regards

Julie Lang
